AVA’s New Event: The Grape Stomp at Animalia
A Vintage Affair (AVA) continues the celebration of its 10th year of supporting nonprofit organizations in Williamson County by adding a brand new event to the AVA 10th Anniversary line up: The Grape Stomp at Animalia.
The Grape Stomp will be held on Sat., Oct. 16th from 2-7 p.m., at Animalia, a new veterinarian clinic owned by Aubrey and Michelle Preston located at 3105 Boyd Mill Pike near the Westhaven neighborhood.
So, whether your notion of grape stomping conjures up romantic images of Keanu Reeves and his love interest in the 1995 film A Walk in the Clouds, or of the iconic scene from the famous I Love Lucy “Grape Stomping” episode, those bold enough to brave the messiness are invited to experience traditional wine making as they stomp barefoot in competition against others in a tournament bracket-style competition. There will be five stomp heats, comprised of six teams each. The team to collect the most juice at the end of the four-minute stomp will advance to the finals, where five teams will compete to be the Grape Stomp champion. Members of the winning team will receive a case of wine as reward for their stomping talent.
There will also be a special award given to the best-dressed Grape Stomping Team, so team T-shirts or creative costumes are encouraged. The cost to sponsor a team of five is $1,000 and up to 30 teams will be assembled. Those wishing to enjoy the event from the sidelines may purchase general admission tickets for $50. A limited number of VIP tickets will be available for $100 each. VIP ticket holders will have access to a designated VIP tent where they will enjoy exclusive wines, gourmet food and the finest cigars.
Wine and food will be plentiful and Four Roses Bourbon from Lawrensburg, Ky., is creating a signature cocktail and will offer bourbon tastings. Additional participants include Cordina mar-GO-ritas, Arrington Vineyards and Robledo Family Winery of Sonoma.
In addition to the entertainment provided by watching the grape stomp, four bands representing different styles and genres of music will play throughout the day. At 6 p.m., a “Wine Down Hour” will feature one band for concert-style entertainment. No alcohol will be served during this time. AVA reminds everyone to drink responsibly and to designate or arrange to have a sober driver. The event is 21 years and up and I.D. will be required to enter the property.
Tickets will be available beginning September 7th. Visit AVA’s website at www.avintageaffair.org for more details and to purchase tickets. For more information on registering your grape stomping team please contact Ashley W. Roberts at 615.351-8165.
